Werner van den Brande Always Has a Good Horse for Sale

Werner van den Brande operates a multi-faceted equestrian business that includes training horses, teaching riders and running a sales business. He travels the U.S. and Europe, always on the hunt for good horses.

‘‘If I find something I like, I’ll take it,’’ van den Brande said. He’s clearly found much that he likes, because he always has a ready supply of good horses in his barn just waiting for the right owner. One thing van den Brande is not  when it comes to choosing good horses is narrow-minded. In his view, good horses come in all breeds.

‘‘I always have some nice horses available, but sometimes the best horse for a client isn’t in the barn so I’ll search out the correct horse to match with clients,’’ van den Brande said. ‘‘What’s important is doing what’s best for the client.’’ 

Van den Brande said when it comes to his own horses, he likes them ‘‘hot and athletic.’’ But when it comes to matching horses to clients, ‘‘it depends mostly on how the client rides.’’ The summer season is generally when he makes his horse buying trips, especially to Europe. Winters he’s busy competing on the Florida dressage circuit.

With his horse sales business and his career as a competitive rider, van den Brande’s life may already seem full, but he still finds time to teach his students and train horses for his many clients and he welcomes more clients. With 62 stalls at his 15-acre facility, van den Brande said he’s got room to welcome more students and clients.
