Lamplight CDI 3* and Spring Dressage Amanda Johnson and Pip Are Intermediaire Victors at Lamplight CDI***
"This weekend, he was right there for me. Everything I asked him to do, he was there. He was really great. He's come such a long way and he's such fun to ride," Johnson said of her partner. The pair hadn't competed in a CDI since doing Dressage at Devon last fall, basically because, as Johnson said, "I didn't have the finances to go to Florida." Hence, she expressed great appreciation to Lamplight for hosting the CDI. "It's such a beautiful show grounds and it was a wonderful competition. It's so great to have this for riders like me who don't have the resources to go to Florida and do the CDIs there. Also, with the gas prices being so high, it's hard to travel. So this is wonderful," she also thanked those who sponsor the CDI classes, especially Tempel Farms for sponsoring the classes she won. "The sponsors deserve credit." Read More.... "We had a great season in Florida," Barteau said, "And now it's going really great up here at home. And the show this weekend is so convenient. I love it." Who's that Girl? It's Australian Dressage Rider Kelly Layne
Layne has been living in the U.S. only since last August when she and her American husband, Steven Layne, moved to Parker, Colorado from Australia. Her husband had been an American Air Force fighter pilot based in Australia and now works in the aviation industry in the U.S. "I'm really loving being in Colorado. I've met lots of really lovely people there. It's absolutely wonderful," Layne said of her new home turf. She's also loving being back in the show ring with her Grand Prix partner, Amoucheur, a.k.a. Smooch. The Grand Prix win was a great birthday gift for Amoucheur, who turned 15 on Friday. Read More.... "Sandor is a super sensitive, hot horse. But when he's on, he can be pretty brilliant," Becker said of her partner. Sandor was clearly 'on' in the Prix St. Georges but Becker said that's rather typical of the nine-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding by Flemingh. "He's a complicated horse, but what's good about him is that when he goes in the ring, he's really focused. He's a worker when he gets in there, he knows his job. He's a fun personality and I'm really lucky to have him," she said. Becker has co-owned Sandor since he was four and was purchased in Holland by Becker and a client. After that client decided to give up share ownership on the horse, Becker's long-time friend Anne Ramsay stepped in. "She didn't want to see me lose the ride so she stepped up and bought the other half of him," Becker said. Read More.... PhelpsPhotos is the official photographer for Lamplight Spring Dressage.
