Lars Petersen, Shawna Harding and Amy Stuhr are in the Running for the Championship Prize Money at The Wellington Classic Dressage Challenge Series - By Lynndee Kemmet for DressageDaily.com

West Palm Beach, Florida – Hundreds of competitors emerged on the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center for the first of three shows in the Wellington Classic Dressage Challenge series. When the dust settled, Lars Petersen, Shawna Harding and Amy Stuhr were left with a chance for a piece of the $15,000 prize money in the Challenge of Champions. In order to win a piece of that money, Petersen must win the Grand Prix classes at both of the next two shows in the series and Harding and Stuhr must win a Prix St. Georges class at both shows. Petersen, who rides for Denmark, and Succes were winners of Saturday’s Grand Prix Open GAIG/USDF Qualifying class with a score of 73.542 percent. Behind them in second place were Lisa Wilcox and Naomi with a score of 71.875 percent.

Wilcox and Naomi were also winners of Sunday’s FEI Grand Prix Special Open with a score of 67.80 percent. As only the Grand Prix class qualifies for the series championship, Petersen is now in the running for the $10,000 Grand Prix prize. Read More.....

Canada’s Olympic Criteria Causes Some Canadian Dressage Riders to Opt Out of 2008 Olympics

In the first show of the year at the Wellington Classic Dressage season Ashley Holzer and her own Pop Art rose to the top of the leader boards in the Grand Prix FEI test of choice scoring a whopping 76.250%.

Those lucky enough to catch the first ride in the morning were treated to perfection in the pirouettes, and watching a totally harmonious and medal winning ride. But for Holzer, and Canada a shot at an Olympic medal for her country doesn't look likely for the 2008 Games. It is not about the anticpated climate of Hong Kong that is the issue, it is the criterea to qualify Holzer feels is unfair to her horse.

Sabbatical from Work Pays Off for Amy Stuhr

West Palm Beach, Florida – Amy Stuhr said her Prix St. Georges win at this weekend’s Wellington Classic Dressage Challenge I isn’t just a victory for her, but for all dressage riders struggling to balance a full-time job and their riding career. “This gives all the normal, hard-working people out there hope. I competed against a huge class of fabulous riders. This win is for everyone who has a job and is overwhelmed with work and family and stress.”

The win astounded Stuhr, 40, who, when back home in Kansas, devotes 50-60 hours a week to her career as a bank loan officer. Read more...

By Lynndee Kemmet for DressageDaily

West Palm Beach, Florida – Lisa Wilcox and the 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare Naomi made clear that they are serious contenders for a spot on the 2008 U.S. Olympic Dressage Team after scoring a 71.80 percent in Saturday’s Grand Prix at the 2008 Wellington Classic Dressage Challenge I. It was a strong showing for the pair in their first outing since returning from Germany in December.

The only pair ahead of them in Saturday’s Grand Prix competition was Danish rider Lars Petersen and Succes with a 73.542%. Naomi is truly a hidden gem. The mare spent much of her early life essentially as a “backyard horse in Holland and had a couple of foals,” Wilcox said. Read More...
