Added U.S. rider Darren Chiacchia who rode Windfall 2 to the 12 th position. “We are all learning as we go.” Germany ’s Bettina Hoy, who stands second after cross country aboard Ringwood Cockatoo, added, “If this is the way to remain in the Olympics then this is what we have to do.” Third place finisher and U.S. rider Kim Severson added, “I like this new format. It saves a lot of energy for the riders as well because we don’t have to walk the Roads & Tracks or the Steeplechase. It might help the horses last a little longer in the sport.” Some thought the course was “a little soft,” noted U.S. rider John Williams, who finished 19 th on Carrick. “My horse went around very easily.” Others thought is was perfect for the Olympics. “I think this is exactly what an Olympic course should be,” commented Touzaint. After cross country France took over the lead (113.40), Germany stands 2 nd (119.60), Great Britain is third (125.60) and the U.S. is less than a rail behind for fourth (129.60). |
