July Figures
Post Increases Membership,
Regitrations and Transfers Track Up
AMARILLO,
Texas Despite continuing reports about the sinking health of the nation's
economy, July turned out to be a good month for the American Quarter
Horse Association, with increases in membership, registrations and transfers.
During
the month of July, AQHA registered 9,302 American Quarter Horses, bringing
the total to 73,861 registration certificates issued so far this year.
That figure marks nearly a 5-percent increase in total registrations
for the year.
Additionally,
July also brought a slight increase in the number of transfers compared
to the same month last year. While overall transfers remain slightly
down for the year, during July AQHA transferred ownership of 13,892
- an increase of nearly 1.5-percent over July 2000. A total of 118,567
American Quarter Horses have been transferred so far in 2001. To be
eligible for various activities and awards, American Quarter Horses
must have properly updated ownership records. The fee to transfer a
horse with AQHA is $15.
Another
sign that showed AQHA's overall strength for 2001 came from Membership
statistics. Through July, AQHA had 332,004 Members on its roster, an
increase of nearly 2-percent over the same period last year. The majority
of increases were seen in three-year and life Memberships, with both
categories showing healthy gains.
"I am
optimistic we will continue on an upward track given the many programs
we've introduced and are enhancing for our Members," said Bill Brewer
AQHA Executive Vice President. "While we're extremely pleased with our
2001 figures so far, we also recognize we're not immune to a slowdown
in the economy. Our goal must be to continue giving our Members value
for the dollar while improving their experience with their American
Quarter Horses."
Friday,
August 3 marks the beginning of the American Quarter Horse Youth Association
World Championship Show and Convention. The largest youth world championship
horse show officially kicks off its opening ceremonies Sunday morning,
August 5 with the annual parade of teams. AQHYA will crown 30 world
champions during the show's run. Fans can stay updated on the show's
activities by visiting AQHA's Web site at www.aqha.com
