AQHA's Day of Prayer / Remembrance September 14, 2001
On the second floor of AQHA's three-story building, the two employee break rooms were transformed from their normal noisy, bustling rooms into quiet gathering places where the entire organization drew together. Some people held hands. Some embraced. Others quietly sat in prayer. While the mood was somber and deep, with countless employees expressing grief for their fellow Americans, there also was a feeling of hope and thankfulness for the brave men and women taking part in the horrific rescue efforts. As the top of the hour approached, a small group of employees headed to the front wall of AQHA and encircled the American Flag, at half-staff on the Association's lawn. There were probably 10 people. Then 15. Then two dozen. Before long, the crowd of employees had grown so large that the circle expanded to include all three of the flags (AQHA Flag, Texas State Flag and US Flag) that grace the front entrance of AQHA. No one said a word. And everyone was dressed in red, white and blue. Some passers-by even slowed. Not to gawk but out of respect. Business will continue for the horse known as "America's Horse." However, try as we might, there are events that occur that give us reason to pause - to interrupt normal operations. This has been one of those occasions that affects us all, and as someone said, it defines the real meaning of the word "united" in United States. Attached are photos of our day of observation. They are sent from the family of AQHA employees to all of you, along with our thoughts and prayers going out to all Americans at this time. Please be proud and remember to acknowledge those close to you! |
