Dressage
The Rhinovirus outbreak in Florida has discouraged many horse owners and dressage riders from training in Florida this winter. To offset this disappointment, the owners of Willow Farm on Martha’s Vineyard have arranged to import an unprecedented training opportunity to New England. The plan is not to offer a weekend clinic of the sort so many of us are familiar with, but instead to invite the German Grand Prix judge and rider Ralf Isselhorst, an advocate of classical dressage training, to present an extended training regimen for select riders and their horses, in which rider, horse, and trainer can become familiar with each other and make significant progress. Mr. Isselhorst’s plan asks the riders to complete an appropriate dressage test at the end of their workouts and training sessions with him. The test is scored and judged by recognized judges, and then discussed symposium-style by Mr. Isselhorst, the judges, the riders, and the audience. The goal of this athletic and intellectual approach is to develop, by examining the training of the horses and their riders, the judge’s eye for correct classical training and execution of a dressage test. The result will be a wonderful discussion of training and judging of lower level dressage tests. This clinic format will be beneficial to judges, riders, and the audience alike. I hope to have sparked your interest. I and Willow Farm’s owners invite you to join this unusual training and discussion program, Feb. 14-20. I’ve enclosed the information you’ll need to arrange your participation. Welcome. Sincerely,
