Smart Great Dude Tops Legacy Sale

Aubrey, TX - October 20, 2002 - The Second Annual Legacy Reining Breeders Sale was held Sunday, October 20, and the event proved once again that the reining industry is strong in 2002. Not even a threat of rain could deter buyers from making the trek to Green Valley Farm, just outside Aubrey, Texas.

The unseasonably chilly weather that was plaguing North Texas at the time was held at bay by the luxurious accommodations of Green Valley Farm, and a large crowd was on hand to feast on barbecue and bid on the broodmares and yearlings offered in the annual production sale.

According to Sale Manager Jeff Magoteaux, the sale grossed $763,500 on 51 head sold, for an average of $14,970.58.

The high selling horse of the sale was Smart Great Dude, a son of Smart Starbuck owned by EquiVentures that was purchased by Tim Crowley of Houston, Texas, for $78,000. The chestnut yearling colt is out of Miss Great Dude, by Great Pine, an NRHA money earning mare that has produced four performers.

Tom McCutcheon of Pilot Point, Texas, along with McQuay-Easton, LLC, of Tioga, Texas, Kyle Ranch of Whitesboro, Texas, Green Valley Farm of Pilot Point, Texas, make up the Legacy Reining Breeders. The annual production sale features broodmares and yearlings from their breeding programs, as well guest consignors Dell Hendricks Reining Horses and Scott McCutcheon Reining Horses.

The high-selling yearling filly - Smart Patty - was consigned by EquiVentures and sold for $36,000 to Dona Van Reese. Smart Patty is by Smart Starbuck and out of Silver Snow Pinestep (Cow Patty) – an NRHA Leading All Time Reining Producer, best known as the dam of Einstein.

The high-selling broodmare was Hollywood Stunt Girl, consigned by Dell Hendricks Reining Horses and purchased for $35,000.00 by Lynn Goode Crowley. Hollywood Stunt Girl is an 11-year-old palomino mare by Hollywood Dun It (X Expressive Gold by Dunny's Jet Steel) that is bred to Grip It And Rip It (Lethal Lena).

All yearlings in the 2002 sale were enrolled in the National Reining Breeders Classic and out of performing or producing mares. The sale was strictly a black-type sale, as every broodmare was either a performer or producer.
