Reining Breeders Classic Grows in 2003
Byars, Oklahoma - March 1, 2003 - On the heels of its announcement of a record year for foal enrollments, the highly successful National Reining Breeders Classic is on the countdown for its 2003 show. The NRBC event, scheduled for April 16-20 at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy, Texas, has boosted its already lucrative payout. The 2003 Open champion will receive $60,000 (up $10,000 over previous years) and early entry numbers show a continued growth curve for the event. It's a testament to the successful yearly horse show, but also a statement on the soundness of the program. With over $2 million in escrow for subsequent aged event added money, this program and this show have become a part of the texture of successfully marketing a reining sire. Chris Potter, Vice President of Operations for ProMotion Management, the company that provides management of the NRBC program and show, pointed out the trend. "Following the record foal enrollment totals of 2002, NRBC stallion subscriptions for 2003 have taken a dramatic surge, as well, with new stallions coming on board weekly," said Potter. He explained that the NRBC office receives calls regularly from potential buyers checking the enrollment status of prospects. "People don't want to buy prospects that aren't going to be able to show at the NRBC. To insure good marketability for reining foals, mare owners want to breed to horses that are NRBC eligible." It just makes good business sense, according to Potter. He added, "At the NRHA Futurity, the champions of every division were by NRBC Enrolled Stallions. It was the same at the AQHA World Show NRBC Stallions sire the winners." The National Reining Breeders Classic is the most successful stallion incentive program in reining history. In just five years, the NRBC has grown to include over 230 subscribed stallions and the payout at the 2002 National Reining Breeders Classic was over $702,000.
