News: Hackamore Classic Slated for April 29 May 1
March 14, 2005 - The National Reined Cow Horse Association’s signature event for Hackamore Horses, the Hackamore Classic, returns to Paso Robles, California in 2005. Slated for April 29-May 1, the Hackamore Classic is a specialized event that celebrates the second stage of training for the traditional California Vaquero. In its second year at the California Mid-State Fair Arena, the Hackamore Classic is a fitting showcase of hackamore finesse Last year’s Hackamore Classic, the first at Paso Robles, was an initial step in establishing Paso Robles as a focal point for reined cow horse competition. Strong support from the Paso Robles community continues in 2005, with the much-appreciated patronage and support of Jack and Phoebe Cook, George and Sue Hearst, Golden Hills Auto Center, Paso Robles Inn and JB Dewar, Inc. Lacey Livestock is also on board as the sponsor of the Bob’s Custom Saddle to be given to the Open Champion. Plus, exhibitors and fans will be treated to a special complimentary barbecue on Friday evening (April 29), hosted by the California Mid-State Fair Board. Reined cow horse events are big business. With over 200 horses on the fairgrounds, the economic impact on the local economy, by standard economic impact formula, translates to over $280,000 brought directly into the Paso Robles area. Considering the turnover multiplier, that brings the total economic impact on the community to well over a million dollars. The National Reined Cow Horse Association, the 56-year-old governing body of cow horse competition, is responsible for promoting the sport, insuring high standards of competition and educating members and the public about the history and tradition of the cow horse. Through the support of a Corporate Partner family that includes Bayer Corporation, Bob's Custom Saddles, Cinch, Inc., Classic Equine, EQ Solutions, MD Barns, Platinum Performance, Inc., Nutrena, Skyline Gold and Silversmiths, Sundowner Trailers, National Ropers Supply, Quarter Horse News & Western Horseman magazine, the Reno Hilton, Dan Gamel's RV Centers, Farnam products Vetrolin Liniment and Farnam dewormers IverCare, ComboCare, LiquiCare P and Continuex, Fort Dodge West Nile Innovator, Rios of Mercedes, Great American Insurance Company and the Silver Legacy, the association works to keep the vaquero tradition alive in today’s equine industry.
