This year, the newly crowned World’s Greatest Horseman is partnered with Mister Smart Remedy, owned by Larry and Sharon Rose, and the score was a sizzling 147. Roeser also tied for second on Heart of A Fox, owned by Twisselman and Roeser. That tie, at 146, was with another former Snaffle Bit Futurity Open Champion, Sandy Collier, on CD Survivor, owned by Holy Cow Performance Horses.

Lance Johnston topped the Intermediate Open Herd Work, with a 142.5 on his own horse, Cee Mr Hickory and in the Limited Open division, Jimmy Stickler rode Mel Smith’s Shesa Taris Catalyst to a 141 to lead that division.

Marc Bourdett marked 144 on Quanah Remedy Too to lead all the Non Pro Hackamore Classic entries, plus top the Intermediate division. Just behind with 143 were John Showalter on Im Real Classy and Futurity Champions Dema Paul and Shiners Dulena with 143. The show continues on Saturday at 8 am, with the second leg of Classic competition, the rein work.

Last year’s Hackamore Classic, the first at Paso Robles, was an initial step in establishing Paso Robles as a focal point for reined cow horse competition. Strong support from the Paso Robles community continues in 2005, with the much-appreciated patronage and support of Jack and Phoebe Cook, George and Sue Hearst, Golden Hills Auto Center, Paso Robles Inn and JB Dewar, Inc. Lacey Livestock is also on board as the sponsor of the Bob’s Custom Saddle to be given to the Open Champion.

Plus, exhibitors and fans were treated to a special complimentary barbecue on Friday evening hosted by the California Mid-State Fair Board.

The National Reined Cow Horse Association, the 56-year-old governing body of cow horse competition, is responsible for promoting the sport, insuring high standards of competition and educating members and the public about the history and tradition of the cow horse.
