Quail Ridge Ranch Becomes NRCHA Breeder Sponsor

National Reined Cow Horse Association Sponsor Committee Chairman Carol Rose has announced that Quail Ridge Ranch has become an NRCHA Breeder Sponsor.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Quail Ridge Ranch to our Breeder Sponsor family,” noted Rose. She explained that the NRCHA Breeders Sponsor program is a special industry-based program for sponsorship exposure. “This program is designed to meet the marketing needs of breeding and training operations and to give maximum exposure with arena signage, Stock Horse News and even inclusion in the NRCHA Silks Program.“

Quail Ridge Ranch is best known for owning Smart Little Rondee, a stallion that has risen to prominence in the past 12 months as the sire of winners of over $600,000, including Midnight Rondeevous (NCHA World Futurity Non Pro Champion in 2005 with $100,000 in earnings) and Shakin Rondee (over $200,000 in earnings )

The ranch is located in Eagle, Idaho (6 miles west of Boise) but the facility will move, in 2005, to a new and larger home near Caldwell, Idaho. It’s amazing growth for an enterprise that is only five years old.

It all began when Blake Mayes, who owns ReMax Capitol City in Boise, purchased a property in nearby Eagle. He wanted a couple of horses to put on the 100+ acres. With that done, he thought it might be good to have a foal or two, and that led to more horse involvement. He was exposed to cutting and loved it. He remembers, “I got interested in the breeding and the ranch grew from there.”

Blake and partner Dennis Adler soon made a successful endeavor out of the ranch. Mayes explains, “Our goal is to raise performance horses – and to try to do that with the best blood in the world.”

An aristocratic band of 40 broodmares, including Doxs Painted Lady (the dam of Color Me Smart) are bred each year to Smart Little Rondee, as well as the ranch’s other sire’s, Acres Of Red (1999 NCHA World Champion and earner of over $180,000) and Sonitas Bo San (NCHA earnings $30,000).

Mayes and Adler attended their first NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity six years ago. “Some friends said it was a great show. We went and fell in love with it. We've gone every year since that first one and have bought horses at the sales. This year we will sell some there.”

Both feel the NRCHA Breeders Sponsorship is a great way to support the cow horse industry. “It’s also a great opportunity as a breeder to have visibility there.” For information on Quail Ridge Ranch, contact Mayes at 208-861-6769, or email to bmayesreo@msn.com.
