Todd Crawford And Jon Roeser Lead NRCHA Open Snaffle Bit Futurity Prelims

September 25, 2005 - The Open Herd Work Preliminaries wrapped up Saturday evening at the National Reined Cow Horse Association Snaffle Bit Futurity in Reno, Nevada, with Todd Crawford, Blanchard, Oklahoma, and Jon Roeser, Lemoore, California, holding onto a tie for the lead.

Todd, riding Smart Shinetta (Shining Spark x Smart Hickory) owned by Lyle Lovett, and Jon, riding Playguns Doll (Playgun x Little Serena Lena) owned by Tony Dragt, each marked a 218 in Friday’s Herd Work and maintained their lead Saturday.

In the Intermediate Open, Ken Wold, Wilton, California, also kept his lead earned Thursday afternoon. Ken, riding Dixie Chic Please (Chic Please x Lei Aloha) owned by Joe Baldiviez and Jessie Meehan, marked a 217.5 to top the division.

The Limited Open Herd Work preliminaries ended with a four-way tie for first with a 215. The tie includes: Cathy Coleman-Errington riding Please Pretty Please (Chic Please x Smart Peppy Princess); Alan Chappell riding Picks Hickaboon (Peptoboonsmal x Ms High Brow); Zane Davis with Hickorys Dual Pic (Doc’s Hickory x Just Dual Pic); and Mark Luis riding Bognuda Smartelesis (Smart Peppy Doc x PSB Tele Remedy 298).

Futurity action continues Sunday with the first 10 sets of Open Rein Work Preliminaries followed by the Youth Limited and Youth Bridle horse show classes. The top 25 riders in the Open Futurity, after competing in the herd, rein and cow works, will return to the arena October 2 for a chance to win the first-place check for $100,000.
