Posted February 12, 2006 NRBC Reiners Golf Tournament Moves to Historic Westwood Golf Club The National Reining Breeders Classic will hold its annual NRBC Reiners Golf Tournament, Monday, April 17. Sponsored by Texas Star Bank, the tournament will be held at the historic Westwood Golf Club in Houston. Founded in 1928, Westwood Golf Club is located in the heart of Southwest Houston, just 10-20 minutes from Downtown, Greenway Plaza, the Galleria area and the Medical Center. "The NRBC Golf Tournament is an institution," noted Cheryl Magoteaux, Secretary/Treasurer of the NRBC. "Scott Olsen, who has been so instrumental in making this event a success in recent years, is the Manager and Director of Golf at Westwood, so we are thrilled to be able to move the event to this wonderful facility. Playing there will be a real treat for our participants.” Olsen began attending the NRBC with his wife, Non Pro rider, Karen Olsen and it was a natural for him to become involved with the Annual Reiners Golf Tournament. “I get a kick out of this. I’ve actually learned to enjoy watching reining over the years and this is a great show to be a part of.” He’s been affiliated with Westwood since 1998, helping to orchestrate and implement extensive renovations and a redesign by renowned golf architect Keith Foster. The result is a private golf oasis with lush green fairways, masterfully manicured greens, conventional squared teeing grounds, and hand-sculpted bunkers integrating the latest varieties of turf grasses and advances. The hardwood oaks, lakes and natural ravine grace this gently rolling terrain, helping to shape and define the fairways and greens. So NRBC golfers are in for a treat, this year. Westwood boasts an 18-hole championship golf course with par of 72. Four sets of tees, extending to 7180 yards, present players of all calibers with a challenging and rewarding golfing experience. Complementing the golf course is an extensive practice facility featuring an oversized hitting area, five-acre short game area, and an eight thousand square foot practice green. As in the past, the 2006 Reiners Golf Tournament will feature 40 participants, making up 10 teams. An entry fee of $60 takes care of the green and cart fees, with a payback for the winning teams, along with assorted prizes. Prizes will be awarded to the person "closest to the pin" on all par threes. The first tee-off is set for 10 am. The tournament is conducted on a scramble format, and reiners, sponsors, and owners can enter as teams, or will be assigned a foursome. To reserve a spot on a first-come, first serve basis, contact Rod Miller at 903-429-0095. The National Reining Breeders Classic is the most successful stallion incentive program in reining history. In just five years, the NRBC has grown to include over 300 subscribed stallions and over 18,000 enrolled foals, and the payout at the 2005 National Reining Breeders Classic was over $1 Million.
