Monday July 10, 2006 Women’s Pro Futurity Finals Payment Schedule Announced The Women’s Pro Rodeo Association’s new WPRA Pro Futurity Finals will be held at the Diamond W Arena in Alvarado, Texas January 16-20, 2007 and already, barrel racers from all over the United States and Canada are planning to attend. For barrel racers, it’s a chance to attend one event with a variety of competition opportunities. Riders can qualify for the Pro Futurity and Pro Derby finals by entering just one of the WPRA-approved futurities held throughout the year. But along with the finals is the WPRA 4D Challenge, which is open to the world (although it may, for time constraints, be limited to 400 entries, so riders are urged to enter early). And, as if that weren’t enough opportunity for barrel racers, those who participate in the WPRA Divisional Tour Program and finish in the top four in their circuit can qualify for the Divisional Tour Finals held in conjunction with the Women’s National Finals – all held on the same weekend! The Women’s Professional Rodeo Association is the governing body for professional barrel racing. It began in 1948 as a group of Texas ranch women who wanted to add a little color and femininity to the rough-and-tumble sport of rodeo, and has now grown to a million-dollar industry with women athletes riding well-conditioned race horses. Today, the WPRA has approved barrel races in hundreds of rodeos sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association each year with total barrel racing prize money totaling in the millions.
