National Reined Cow Horse Association Stakes Returns to Idaho for 2007

The National Reined Cow Horse Association has announced the dates and location of its 2007 NRCHA Stakes. According to Association President Dan Roeser, the event will again be held at the Idaho Horse Park in Nampa, Idaho, March 28 – April 1, 2007.

Roeser, who was instrumental in moving the event to his home state in 2006, said, “I think that having the NRCHA Stakes in Idaho is an excellent opportunity for the National Reined Cow Horse Association to expand into another part of the country where support for the reined cow horse industry has traditionally been very strong. Response was great last year, and we’re looking to grow even more this year.”

With a 100,000 square foot indoor arena, over 500 stalls, multiple outdoor arenas, a food service provider, RV Park with full services, a dedicated staff and a nationally recognized equine veterinary hospital adjacent to the property, the Idaho Horse Park complex boasts every amenity to make the exhibitors’ stay an enjoyable one.

The Idaho Horse Park is located just off Interstate 84, at exit 38, just twelve miles west of Boise. For information, visit www.idahohorsepark.com.

A new element has been added to the NRCHA Stakes – with the inception of the NRCHA Stakes Calf Branding. Slated to be held on Saturday evening after the horse show classes, the event promises fun for exhibitors and participants alike.

The event is the brainchild of NRCHA Marketing Committee Chairman Jake Gorrell, who noted, “My biggest goal is to get local community horse people involved in our events and our association. In an agricultural and ranching community, we’re hoping this will attract some new people out to the show.”

A reception will be held for spectators, so it’s expected to be a fun time for everyone.

Each four-person team will have two riders and two people on the ground. The riders will head and heel the calf, then the ground people will brand. Then they switch positions. It’s a timed event that promises to be great entertainment.

Entry fee will be $75 per person, with the purse jackpotted back. At least one team member must be an entry in the reined cow horse show, or an owner, staff or sponsor of the even. Besides the cash, winners will receive special Wimberly pistols for awards.

The NRCHA Stakes is an event for four- and five-year-old reined cow horses by NRCHA Subscribed Stallions. The horses are shown in a snaffle bit or hackamore in herd, rein and cow work.

The National Reined Cow Horse Association, the governing body of cow horse competition, is responsible for promoting the sport, insuring high standards of competition and educating members and the public about the history and tradition of the cow horse. Through the support of a Corporate Partner family that includes Bayer Corporation, Bob's Custom Saddles, Cinch, Inc., Classic Equine, MD Barns, Platinum Performance, Inc., Nutrena, Skyline Gold and Silversmiths, Bloomer Trailer Mfg., Quarter Horse News & Performance Horse magazine, the Peppermill Hotel Casino, Farnam products Vetrolin Liniment and Farnam dewormers IverCare, ComboCare, LiquiCare P and Continuex, Fort Dodge West Nile Innovator, Rios of Mercedes, Merial products ULCERGARD and GASTROGARD, Great American Insurance Company and the Silver Legacy Hotel, the association works to keep the vaquero tradition alive in today’s equine industry.
