USET'S Prudent Named Leading Rider
at the 1999 Geneva CSI-W

United States Equestrian Team (USET) veteran Katie Monahan Prudent, of Middleburg, VA, was named the overall leading rider at Geneva, Switzerland CSI-W held December 9-12th. Prudent was awarded a Land Rover for her outstanding performances.

Riding Belladonna, owned by Plain Bay Farm, and Landato, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Haas, Prudent started off by winning two speed classes on the same day. Her successes continued throughout the show, ending on Sunday with a second place finish to European Show Jumping Champion Alexandra Ledermann of France in the Rolex Classic Grand Prix.

As Sally Ike, Director of Show Jumping for the USET, commented, " Katie's achievement is remarkable. Not only did she win two classes in one day, which almost never happens, but she placed in the top three in every class entered. Furthermore, she did it riding against world class competitors like Alexandra Ledermann and current World Cup and World Champion, Rodrigo Pessoa!"

Last summer Prudent was the coach for the USET's Show Jumping Developing Rider program. This program provides grants for promising riders to compete in Europe as part of a USET tour. The European tour, under the direction of Prudent, provided a unique and challenging experience for our riders. The American riders who participated in the program benefited greatly from their experience in Europe thanks in part to the USET grants and came home with wins in the Nations Cups at Falsterbo, Sweden and Budapest, Hungary.
