2000
BET/USET Show Jumping Talent Search In 1994 the USET decided to combine
the USET Medal Program with the USET Showjumping Talent Search Program.
This name change better reflects the focus of the program by asking developing
riders to meet a more difficult set of standards than required in other
competitions, thus helping them to prepare for berths on future USET Show
Jumping squads. That same year 2000 USET Olympic Show Jumping rider Lauren
Hough won the East Coast division, a testament to the success of such
a decision.
On a brilliant autumn weekend, October 7 & 8, at the USET Headquarters, 62 riders, the largest division in years, competed in the difficult and challenging format developed by judges Ronnie Beard and Francie Steinwedell-Carvin. The competition consists of three phases, the flat phase, Gymnastics and Show Jumping. The top four riders are then selected for Phase IV, modeled after the Show Jumping World Championships, where competitors first ride their own horses, then each of the others' mounts in turn over the same course. |
