Leslie Howard Takes Honors in Amsterdam
Howard and her mount, fresh off their victory in the Grand Prix at CSI-A Maastricht held November 29 - December 2, 2001, were one of nine horse and rider combinations to make it to the jump-off in the World Cup Class. With the advantage of the late draw she topped the second place rider's time by almost five seconds. Among stiff competition, including Sydney gold medalist (Individual), Jeroen Dubbeldam (NED) and Ludger Beerbaum (Team), Howard succeeded in clinching the Grand Prix winning a Nissan car. In 1999 American showjumping rider Elise Haas became the first American and the first woman to win the long standing European dominated event. Alison Firestone of Upperville, Virginia and Limminka (1993 KWPN m., Topas - Carelda, by Aletevr), were third in the International Jumping Competition, jumping against the clock and fourth in the De Telegraaf Prijs accumulator both held at Jumping Amsterdam.
