Hampton Classic Horse Show Announces Revised Schedule

Bridgehampton, NY— August 29, 2002 — Due to heavy rainfall on Thursday, the 2002 Hampton Classic Horse Show has made scheduling changes in order to preserve the grass footing in the grand prix ring for Sunday’s $150,000 Prudential Financial Grand Prix.

Friday, for only the second time in the event’s 27-year history, there will be no jumping on the grand prix field. Friday’s classes scheduled for the Grand Prix ring have been moved to the Jumper Annex ring that is equipped with all-weather footing. The only cancellation is the $30,000 Adequan Grand Prix, traditionally used to determine which 30 horse-rider combinations advance to the $150,000 Prudential Financial Grand Prix. All riders who were entered in $30,000 Adequan Grand Prix will now be allowed to compete in Sunday’s Grand Prix, although each rider will be limited to two horses.

The only event that will be held on the grand prix field prior to Sunday will be the $25,000 Sally Hansen Grand Prix on Saturday afternoon. Beginning at 1:00 p.m., the Sally Hansen Grand Prix will feature many of the nation’s top horses and riders.

Scheduling changes have also been made to the Classic’s hunter divisions. The revised Hampton Classic schedule is available on the Hampton Classic website at www.hamptonclassic.com.

In addition to its schedule of show jumping competition, Friday’s Hampton Classic Horse Show will showcase “Fiesta Day”, a cultural celebration of the Hispanic community’s involvement in the horse show industry. CTO, the Eddie Torres Dancers and Felix Andino will entertain the crowd with live Latin and Hispanic music and dancing while guests enjoy ethnic food. Information about careers in the horse industry will be made available. In addition to fun for the adults, children will be entertained by magicians, face painters and free pony rides.

The Hampton Classic is one of the nation’s premier show jumping competitions. Many of the world’s best equestrians are competing for more than $250,000 in prize money during the Classic, which benefits the Southampton Hospital. Each day of the show is devoted to special events and social activities, culminating with the $150,000 Prudential Financial Grand Prix on Sunday, September 1.

Other featured show jumping events during the Hampton Classic include the $15,000 W.G.H.R. Junior/Amateur Jumper Classic, the $50,000 Eastern Finals of the Young Jumper Championships, and the $25,000 Calvin Klein Show Jumping Derby for riders under the age of 21.

In addition to the competition, spectators are treated to a variety of other exciting exhibits including the Boutique Garden’s numerous vendor booths, Stable Row’s 20 booths, three on-site public restaurants, and an Exhibition Horse/Children’s area open throughout the week.

The Hampton Classic continues through Sunday, September 1. Admission is $5 per person or $15 per carload per day, with children under 6 admitted free. Reserved grandstand seating for Sunday, September 1, is $15 per person (in addition to $5/person or $15/carload admission) or $25 per person for premium front-row seating. Parking throughout the show is free.
