USA Show Jumper Candice King Jumps to the Top in Europe

Morrisville, NY - October 29, 2002 - U.S. Equestrian Team (USET) show jumping veteran and SUNY Morrisville clinician Candice King of Wellington, FL is on a winning streak at the tough European shows.

At the Helsinki (Finland) CSI-W on October 10-13, King captured the Helsinki International Trophy class aboard Espadon. Espadon, a Selle Francais gelding sired by Oberon du Moulin and owned by Penlyn Farm, covered the course in 30.72 seconds. Aboard the Holsteiner Caliskan (by Caletto I out of M-Lareen by Leander), King placed sixth in the World Cup class.

Moving on to the CSI-A Leeuwarden in The Netherlands, King and Espadon won the TH Equipment Prix, stopping the timers in 51.24 seconds. The pair also finished fourth in the De Grote Consortium Prix.

"My horses have been super," stated King after the CSI-A Leeuwarden. "I couldn't ask for anything more from them. They give me 100% every time they enter the ring. I'm very lucky to have such wonderful horses and an incredibly supportive team of owners."

This past winter, King gave a well-attended clinic for the SUNY Morrisville College Foundation on January 18-20, 2002 in Morrisville, NY. The King clinic grossed nearly $10,000 for the Foundation's scholarship programs. Morrisville has invited King back to hold another clinic during the winter of 2003.

"I'm looking forward to heading up to Morrisville again," she commented. "The Morrisville equestrian facility is first rate. Between the board room, the Loddon stalls for the stallions, the two indoor arenas, race track, breeding facilities, wireless classroom, draft horse barn for their six hitch, and wonderful pastures, the Morrisville students and horses have it made!"

Prior to her first clinic at Morrisville, King enjoyed a year most riders could only dream about. Her 2001 success began at the Federation Equestre Internationale's (FEI) World Cup in Sweden, where by finishing fifth she was the highest placed U.S. rider. King was also a member of the USET's victorious Nations Cup squad in Drammen, Norway. In The Netherlands, she jumped to a prestigious win in the Leeuwarden Grand Prix. Additionally, this past season, King jumped two double clear rounds and became the first American since 1968 to bring home the coveted Queen Elizabeth Cup from the United Kingdom.

With nearly 300 horses, SUNY Morrisville's equine program is one of the largest in the U.S. The college's new Equine Breeding and Training Center manages the breeding of over 400 mares each year, and hosts an annual Standardbred yearling auction every September. This year, the sale grossed over $2.5 million in two days.

The new 34,000 square-foot facility includes an indoor arena, a 34-stall mare barn, a 31-stall hunter/jumper barn, two climate-controlled quarantine stalls, a complete breeding laboratory with collection area, and a laptop classroom. In addition to the new facility, the college has a separate 80-acre Equine Center complete with paddocks, stables, another indoor arena and the only half-mile Standardbred training track on a college campus in the nation.

SUNY Morrisville is a residential college of agriculture and technology offering two- and four-year degrees in more than 75 academic programs and options. Recently named America's #1 Most-Wired Two-Year College for the second consecutive year by Yahoo! Internet Life magazine, the college was the first in the SUNY system to participate in the ThinkPad University program and one of the first in the nation with a wireless program. SUNY Morrisville was also chosen as one of the top five colleges in the nation for campus activities by Campus Activities magazine.
