Reeve to Attend 2003 Washington International Horse Show
"We are thrilled to have the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation as our primary charity this year," stated WIHS President Dr. Sheila Johnson. "We are honored to have Christopher attend this year's Show. He is a true inspiration to so many people." Christopher Reeve was paralyzed in 1995 after he fell off his horse in a horse trials competition in Culpeper, Virginia. Though he was wearing a protective vest and helmet, Mr. Reeve broke his neck at the first and second vertebrae, leaving him completely paralyzed with no sensation or motor function from the neck down. In rehabilitation since shortly after his injury, Mr. Reeve has regained some sensation below the level of his injury and the ability to move some joints. Today, he can feel pinpricks and the light touch of a cotton swab over most of his body. "Having the Washington International Horse Show benefit the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation this year is a wonderful partnership for us, and I'm looking forward to attending the show," stated Christopher Reeve. "My love for horses has never diminished." CRPF is the result of a merger between the American Paralysis Foundation (APA) and the Christopher Reeve Foundation. CPRF is committed to funding research that develops treatments and cure for paralysis caused by spinal cord injury and other central nervous system disorders. CPRF vigorously works to improve the quality of life for people living with disabilities through its grants program, paralysis resource center and advocacy efforts.
