McCann Finishes Weekend with Multiple Wins at Buffalo International Horse
Show
McCann started the day by sweeping the Junior Hunter division. She won the championship on the charming bay gelding, By the Way, owned by SBS Farms of Buffalo, NY. McCann also rode Trebuchet to the reserve championship. Trebuchet is owned by Jonathan and Jeffrey Phillips of Potomac, MD. The highlight of the day was the $2,000 Handy Hunter Classic. Crowds filled the VIP sections to watch. Riders were allowed to choose their own course of ten jumps. McCann went in first on her own horse, My Way. They executed the course with crisp turns and scored an 85 from Judge Scott Williamson. Merideth Bartolone and Once and Again were in next. Once and Again jumped beautifully and they received a score of 79. McCann followed on her championship winner, By the Way. By the Way was originally bought with the intention of being an equitation horse. The handy hunter course, with short rollbacks and broken lines, posed no problem for the clever gelding. They scored an 87. McCann also competed with Trebuchet, but no one in the class was able to beat By the Way’s high score. Official Results: $2,000 Handy Hunter Classic
The other Saturday night feature was the $1,500 Children’s/Adult Jumper Classic. Four horses made it to the jump-off, and the last proved to be the best. Kacey McCann rode Mick O’Angelo for the BTRC to a clear round and the win. She also finished in second place on Marcellus, owned by Stephanie Danhakl. McCann and Mick O’Angelo were also awarded the championship in the Children’s/Adult Jumper division. She picked up the reserve champion ribbon on two horses that tied for the title, Marcellus and her own horse, My Way. In addition to winning the Children’s/Adult Jumpers, Junior Hunters and the Handy Hunter Classic, McCann was also awarded the Best Child Rider Award for the third year in a row.
