2002 World Equestrian Games

High Performance Center

In an effort to take advantage of the excellent results in Classical Dressage, ANCCE has worked to multiply this phenomenon. With this in mind, a pioneering initiative has been launched in Spain with the creation of CAR-ANCCE, a high performance center that is dedicated exclusively to Purebred Spanish Horses.

The center is located on the Dehesa de Montenmedio country estate in Vejer de la Frontera in the province of Cadiz. World-class facilities, known to equestrian aficionados as the venue of the "Sunshine Tour" held in February and March, attract the international elite of the showjumping and dressage worlds where they work with more than 1500 horses in competition.

Well-known Dutch trainer, Henk van Bergen, supervises the High Performance Center for PRE horses, using his extensive experience gained at all levels within the sport. José Manuel Lucena, Spanish National team rider, whom has been most outstanding in recent years in the European circuits, also benefits the centre with his experience and knowledge.

CAR-ANCCE is working to train a series of horses and riders so that they acquire sufficient attainment levels to participate in high level competitions with the necessary guarantees to avoid temporary vacancies and damage the credibility of the breed during the generation changeover.

The present and future of PRE horses is not limited by the high expectations given by its success within Dressage. Other disciplines have caught the eye of breeders and ANCCE. Driving, for example, has improved to such an extent that a four-in-hand will represent Spain at the Jerez World Equestrian Games. This team is the best example in the country and is in a position to reach a high-ranking place in the Championships.

On the Showjumping discipline, there are few opportunities to see Purebred Spanish Horses running in official international show jumping competitions. However, if a horse is bred that is useful for those who want to begin this activity, especially young children that adapt to the versatility and docile behaviour of the PRE, there will be no need to acquire more complex breeds that might discourage early participation in showjumping.
