Who's Who Rider in the Spotlight

Writer/Rider Tami Hoag’s 2008 Update

After a rollercoaster year in 2007, marked by success in the show ring and the tragic loss of her grand prix partner, Coco Chanel, Tami Hoag is back up to warp speed with big plans unfolding in 2008. Here’s the condensed version of Tami’s tale!

Last fall Tami spent three months in Germany, training with Michael Klimke and her two new boys: her super Swedish grand prix horse, Bacchus de Light, and Rush Hour, her extravagant chestnut gelding soon to be turning heads in the show ring. Tami and the boys were joined by two of their favorite girls in Europe, too.  Tami’s American coach, Betsy Steiner and Tami’s ten-year-old Hanoverian mare, Fabia, also made the training trek to Europe.

Tami debuted Bacchus in late February at the Zada Florida Dressage Classic. And while the partnership was not in perfect sync, it was clear to the spectators and judges alike that this is going to be a formidable pair in the near future. The plan to debut Rush Hour in the Prix St. Georges and the Intermediaire levels at the Palm Beach Derby was unfortunately derailed by a minor accident that left Tami with a sprained hand just days before the show. She was forced to scratch, but was still at the show to cheer on her peers and do what could only be classified as some “grand prix” level shopping!

"Thank God my parents had the good sense to get me into riding lessons, and I started my life with horses showing hunters. I rode in 4-H and local club shows and began the first of several working student positions at a local hunter barn," Christy said.

Being a working student is how she paid for lessons. Most of those working student positions were in hunter/jumper barns. Now Christy Lynn Hart has students of her own as the head of Equine Services at Hiwassee College in Madisonville, Tennessee as the adjunct professor at the college teaching equestrian studies. The program offers two tracts of study for students enrolled in equine science. One tract is for students interested in pursuing veterinary medicine and the other tract is for students who are interested in pursuing a job in the equine industry such as a trainer, barn manager, etc. Read More....
